Spring is coming, music lasts forever and what tolerance have to do with it

Spring. Outburst of colours, a new born of our surrounding. Actually, colours of WrocLove are colours of its citizens and their colourful souls. But there is just one sun, which makes all of us smile, and we could share it, it quietly belongs to us! So let’s do it. Share the smile to everyone! We need colours, both visual and these inside us.

And this little digression we start our first article about tolerance and related occurrences in mass media and fine arts.

Jimi Hendrix, one of the greatest guitarists and vocalists in history once said “ Music doesn’t lie. If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music.”
That’s why many songs talk about racism, prejudices and world peace. But why music has such a strong impact on us that, according to Hendrix, it is the only thing that can help us in process of changing the world?
Music can spread many various emotions, make us happy or sad. If we enjoy a song it stucks in our mind, we hum it and remember lyrics sometimes for a really long time. There’s probably no way to completely forget a song once heard.
John Lennon in “Imagine” encourage us to imagine the world without religion, countries and possesions; things that divide us and unable many people living in peace. Lennon sings “You may say I’m a dreamer. But I’m not the only one” And indeed he isn’t. His song now, 32 years after his death, is used almost as often as national anthems in many countries what can be a proof of how powerful a song can be in making the world a better place.
Michael Jackson used to sing “It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white”, Dionne Ferries „Before I am black, Before I am young, Before I am short, Before I am woman, Before I am African, I am human.” So motive of racism is quite easy to find in music too.
Below you can check out our playlist of songs that talks about diversity, racism and world peace. It’s really various (from Birdy to Ozzy Osbourne) so I’m pretty sure you will find something to enjoy.

It Doesn’t Matter If You’re Black or White

Michael Jackson:

„Because in truth I believe all men are created equal. I was taught that and will always believe it. I just can’t conceive of how a person could hate another because of skin color. I love every race on the planet earth. Prejudice is the child of ignorance.”

First step done – Blackmilk team presents

There we are, one of 27 junior high school teams.
Mission: To make people fearless of their surroundings.
Dream: Society with open mind and smile on its face
Reality: no matter how imperfect it is, we believe we can change it

‚The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.’ Said one of Apple’s advertise slogans and we think that’s true. But before the whole world we could start here, in Wrocław.
On Saturday we’ve finished the cross – cultural competence workshop and the content of this event just bowl us over. We were so different in our group! Everyone has his own way, an own little goal that day, own definition of this project. But then it turned out, that we have similar thoughts and the same transmission. Sometimes there was an embarrassing silence what was unnatural in such a varied company. It proved that we were a bit scared. And maybe that’s it? Fear of the opposite side. We are all humans and if we are scared, we cannot freeze on the spot forever, we need to do something about it. Frightened person doesn’t do his own research, just absorbs a general opinion about that fearful thing, adds all that unpleasant fright and there it is. Prejudice, intolerance, offensive action.

In case of our group this could be fear caused by responsibility. We are not children and we should stand up for ourselves. Everything has consequences, every change is a risk. And change is (now glance at the first sentence of paragraph) our aim. It’s really hard to start and keep changing. But during workshops we tried to overcome our weaknesses, our fear, sometimes even in a funny way. That’s why these training classes were so awesome. And we hope for more! Not just for chosen competitors, but normal teenagers too. Where the fear disappear, there’s a removal of disapproval!
